What muscle will YOU flex?

✦ There’s more than one way to be strong. ✦

READ TOGETHER. GET CURIOUS.

So, what’s a “muscle”?

Think beyond the kind you flex with your arm.

Flex Your Muscle follows Teddy’s search and invites children to explore different kinds of strength. Read together, talk about his discoveries, and get curious about the “muscles” your child is already using—and the ones they’d like to explore.

1

Create something.

Explore an idea. Make something. Tell a story in your own way.

2

Try another way.

Change an approach. Practice a skill. See what happens next.

3

Ask for help.

Share what you need. Find support. Figure something out together.

There’s room to feel proud of something you did and still be a beginner at something else.

A NOTE FROM MARISA

Why I wrote it

“Some days, my tech muscle gets quite a workout!”

If you’ve spent any time with me at Real Mom SLP, you know I talk a lot about language. Specifically, the everyday words we use with our kids.

I wanted to bring those ideas into a story you could read together.

As a pediatric speech-language pathologist and a mom, I want us to notice what children do: the ideas they explore, the strategies they try, the help they ask for. And I want us to leave room for whatever they discover next.

I'm practicing this myself, too. Lately, I've been flexing my tech muscle as I learn to build websites and figure out new technology. Some days, things click. Other days, I have to try again (and maybe ask for a little help!). And that's exactly the point. We don't have to know how to do something yet to give it a try. Every time we practice, we're giving that muscle a chance to grow.
